How to Protect Your Promos from Pirates

Must stop evil pirates...Pirating, or ’sharing’ is a huge problem, especially to the smaller independent labels. You have to send out promos of your record to press and DJs before it’s released, so how do labels stop pirates from bootlegging and uploading for everyone to download before that release date?

Solution, kind of…

Lo;Rise – Observer (High Skies mix) Drop-out 1 mp3

Lo;Rise – Observer (High Skies mix) Drop-out 2 mp3

…you add in gaps/ dropouts to the promos, or in this case, a voiceover. It’s far from perfect and can get in the way of the people trying to write a review, but at least it’s ’some’ kind of protection.

There are about three dropouts per track and 39 tracks on this 3xCD album, making well over a hundred dropouts, so you wouldn’t want to listen to the album too many times on repeat.

I should stress that this is only on the promo copies…
